How To Reduce Your Chances
Of Getting Breast Cancer
Taking the following life-saving actions by making healthy choices will help you reduce risks of breast cancer and other chronic diseases.
- Find out if you have a family history of breast cancer or any inherited changes in your BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. You may (or may not) be at a higher risk for breast cancer.
- Do monthly self-checks.
- Exercise.
- Eat healthier.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Get enough sleep.
- Limit alcohol.
- Try to avoid exposure to carcinogens that interfere with the normal function of the body.
- Limit exposure to radiation from medical imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, and PET scans if not medically necessary.
- Find out your risks of taking birth control pills. If you are taking, or have been told to take hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives, ask your doctor about the risks.
- Breastfeed if you have a child, if possible.
