Why Self chec?

Some hard facts
Chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, are responsible for seven out of 10 deaths and 75 percent of the $2.2 trillion spent on health care in the United States each year. More than 130 million Americans today have a chronic disease, many of which could either be effectively prevented or minimized through simple, low-cost disease prevention and management programs that would eliminate, not just shift, costs from the U.S. healthcare system. The annual economic impact on the U.S. economy of the seven most common chronic diseases is calculated to be $1.3 trillion, which could balloon to nearly $6 trillion by the middle of the century.*

Shockingly this is also the first generation whose children may have a shorter lifespan than their parents.

What we are trying to do about this

Self chec is about you decreasing your odds of getting cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity, and living a long and healthy life. It’s about what you and those you care about must do to make sure this happens. Self chec wants to help create a cultural shift from fear and denial about personal healthcare, to awareness and personal empowerment by telling you fairly and squarely the actions you need to take to help prevent chronic disease, by practicing early detection screenings and self-checks.

We also want to help break the negative legacy about cancer as the Big “C” that most of us grew up with, so that future generations will fear less and act more positively to keep healthy.

Please help us engage family and friends in spreading the spirit of Self chec’s mission.
